What to do when your dog eats a chicken wing….?

Health — Administrator on November 5, 2007 at 8:27 pm

This morning my little miniature pincher decided to take a chicken wing bone out of the trash and eat it! I don;t even know how he I swallowed it because even I could not swallow a chicken wing bone and my min pin is only 9 lbs. I was shocked and very upset that I could not get the wing out of his mouth. I tried my hardest and he would not let it go he just ate it, practically whole. So I looked online to see what I should do in this type of situation and I read that I should just keep an eye on my min pin and make sure he doesn’t vomit or have blood in his stool and such. I think I will call the vet tomorrow though, just to make sure that he is OK.

Lead Paint Testers post two

Baby, Health — Administrator on November 5, 2007 at 6:53 pm

I have ordered and received my lead testers and I have tested two items in my house. I tested my daughters crib because she liked to bite the crib rail and I wanted to make sure that the paint was fine. I did test it with my new lead tester kit and the crib came up negative for lead paint, so I was very happy about that. I also have tested a cabinet that I got for free for lead paint and it too came up negative. So, I am happy so far with my results. With all of the lead paint stories in the news I am scared to buy anything for my daughter, but so far so good. If you have a little one, then you too should get yourself some lead testers and check items in your home, just in case.

Breast Cancer….Chemo….no Hair….

Health — Administrator on October 25, 2007 at 10:19 am

My mom is going through her first chemo treatment and it has been just over two weeks and her hair is already starting to fall out. She has a good head of hair and so the fact that it is falling out is hard to believe that it could be all gone. Luckily after the treatments your hair does grow back. But in the meantime she will have to deal with a bald head and try to keep herself looking good for the next two years or so until all of her treatments are over. There are options like wigs, scarfs and head dresses. It is just too bad that you have to always be wearing something on your head to make yourself feel better. It’s so much easier to not have to deal with such a situation. Maybe some day there will be a better treatment that wont make you lose your hair, and won’t make you feel sick. Some day….

Get You and Your Family a Lead Test Kit

Baby, Health — Administrator on September 5, 2007 at 8:57 am

lead test kit
Having a lead test kit in your home should be a must. Ever since I have been reading about all of the toy recalls, it just makes me wonder how many items in my home really have lead in them. I have a one year old and she has a ton of toys, and I do not feel safe having her toys around her unless I test them for lead. I have ordered a lead test kit today and I bought the big one.

I bought the one that has 100 test sticks. I want to make sure that there are no items in my home with lead on them. Not only will I be testing my daughters toys, but also any other items in my home that are painted, especially painted in CHINA! Here is the link to the website where I bought my Lead test strips.

What would you do…

Health — Administrator on July 26, 2007 at 7:03 am

If your arm was in pain and you could not use it, there was no muscle and there was nothing out there to fix it. All the doctors have told you that you just need to live the rest of your life with an arm that hurts you daily and does not work at all. Would you want to keep it, and deal with the pain and uncomfortableness of it just so you could say you have two arms? Or, would you have the arm removed so that you could go back to your normal life and not worry about how your arm is feeling. Would you be able to give up on your arm and just remove? Would you get a prosthetic arm in replace of it or would you just live with one arm? I know that there are people all over the world that live their daily lives perfectly fine with just one arm, but would you be able to do it too?

The reason I ask is that a family member of mine has this same problem, and she wants to keep her arm. She feels that she would not be able to do any more if she had only one arm versus two arms with one that does not work and is a burden to her everyday life. The only thing here is that she is in he 80’s. She say’s that maybe if she was younger she would do it but at her age it would not make her life any better. I am not so sure that I agree with her since I see her every week and she looks miserable every day because of her arm.

Just to give you an idea of what she cannot do because of her age and her immobile arm that is bandaged up all the way to her shoulder and is in pain every day:

Take a shower
Dry off from the shower
Get dressed
Drive a car
Write
Cook
Take her dog for a walk
Cut her food

Al of these things sh cannot do because of how much of a burden her immobile arm is. So, what would you do in this situation?

One Voice ~ One Life ~ One Breast Cancer

Health — Administrator on July 24, 2007 at 7:05 am

If you know someone who has breast cancer or had breast cancer you may want to take a look at a website that is about a woman who also has breast cancer. It is a online journal of what she has to go through and what she is thinking about since she found out that she had breast cancer. It is nice to read up about woman who have breast cancer, to help them out and to make them feel better. It is a lot to deal with when you find out that you have cancer. I have had 4 people in my close family have breast cancer in the past 10 years and it is not easy.

Dramamine vs. Bonine

Health, Travel — Administrator on July 14, 2007 at 7:29 am

I have to take a anti-nausea pill whenever I am on a plane, ride, boat or train because I get motion sickness. For the past many many years I have always taken Dramamine and it has done the trick. The only problem is that is knocks me out and all I want to do is sleep for the entire day that I take it. So, a friend told me to try Bonine because they said it has no drowsiness affect and it works just as good. So, I tried it and it works just as good as the Dramamine, but I still get very very tired and I cannot keep myself awake. So, I do not think that there is any difference in the effectiveness of Dramamine and Bonine. If you have the smae problem as I do, than I would just buy whichever brand is the cheapest because they will both work the same.

Chicken pox vaccine Be careful

Health — Administrator on June 12, 2007 at 8:55 am

If you have a baby or child who has not had the chicken pox your doctor is going to tell you that you should give your child the chicken pox vaccine. But what your doctor won’t tell you is that the chicken pox vaccine along with some other vaccines have some mercury in them. Mercury is very bad for babies and little kids, an adult can process some mercury through their body, but a baby and child would have a very hard time and it could possibly damage your child in some way. So, just be aware when giving your child vaccines as what are in them and how it can affect your child.
